Royal Enfield launches “Make Your Own” programme a customization initiative for its customers

Royal Enfield finally has come up with something which it should have, long back ago. Better late than never we guess.

The Chennai based classic motorcycle manufacturer has launched “Make Your Own”, a customization option for the buyers who want to personalize their motorcycles at the time of booking. Currently, this personalization option is available only on the single-channel ABS variant of Classic 350 variant and later it will be extended to the entire fleet of Royal Enfield. This option is currently offered in 141 dealerships across Delhi NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The company is planning to expand this program along with its network across India. This program allows the customer to choose a variety of parts and accessories which includes engine guard, panniers, rear luggage rack, touring seat options, saddlebags, front visor and much more. Royal Enfield is also offering alloy wheels which carry ARAI certification. The company is also providing a 2-year warranty for all the parts & accessories. The customization option is not available for online booking the customer has to go to the dealership and has to select the desired parts at the time of booking.

The market of aftermarket accessories is a massive market which the company should have entered long back from the beginning of the Ladakh ride with luggage rack or ‘larrier’ (which it is commonly called). Yet, it’s not too late for the company.

The question is how this initiative is better than the previously available options for customization? Earlier the customer had to go the dealership after purchasing the motorcycle and had to buy the desired parts which were mostly out of the stock. Also, the customer ended up with a pair of two parts one of which was the custom and the other was the stock one which the dealer may or may not purchase back. Now as per the new initiative for example, if a customer adds alloy wheel to the motorcycle then the cost of the stock spoke wheels will be deducted from the price of the motorcycle.

Well, it’s about time. So, let’s see how this one goes for the king of classic motorcycle manufacturer.

TVS Zeppelin: Is it going to be the first hybrid motorcycle of India

According to the latest buzz in the automobile sector it is expected that TVS is going to launch its first modern cruiser in the early of 2020.

First showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, it was introduced with a 220cc engine which produces about 20hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 18.5Nm.The 220cc engine is paired with a 1,200- watt regenerative assist motor with a 48-volt Li-ion battery which makes Zeppelin a “hybrid one” similar to what Suzuki’s sedan Ciaz offers. For the electric motor TVS says, it adds to the overall performance and gives 20 per cent of more torque when required.  TVS has not stopped here, the bike also gets an integrated starter generator or ISG which helps the bike to start instantly also in cold condition without any fuzz.

Now talking about the ergonomics and looks, the bike has the typical relaxed cruiser stance with a flat track handlebar. Making it more appealing, the Retro styled fuel tank with the fuel lid placed on the right (similar to what we get to see in Apache) defines its macho character very well. The bike which was showcased was equipped with USD forks at the front end and mono-shock at the rear assisting with a dual channel ABS. The bike was seen having a belt-drive system which is expected to be replaced by a chain drive to lower the price of the bike, which is also the case of USD forks. Other features of the bike include all LED headlamp, digital speedometer, bio electric key, online connectivity and a first in class feature of getting a HD-action camera mounted on headlamps to record your ride.

It is being said that TVS will try to keep the price around 1.30 lacs(ex-showroom), which means it compete directly with evergreen Bajaj Avenger , Suzuki’s intruder and the alone ruling Royal Enfield’s bullet & classic series. If TVS will give 80 per cent of the features to the bike which it showcased along with keeping the price below 1.5 lakh then there is no or little doubt that Zeppelin will rule the Indian roads.
